A painting by John Davison Liddell (1859–1942) of the visit by the Prince and Princess of Wales on the 21st August 1884 can be viewed here

The Shields Daily News of August 22nd 1884 [1] carries a substantial account of the visit, but there is no mention of a rocket practice, which must have been carried out by the TVLB while the Royal visitors were passing through the Borough after disembarking at Tynemouth North Pier (after sailing down the Tyne from the newly opened Albert Edward Docks, North Shields) and travelling in their carriages in procession[2] to Tynemouth Railway Station . The list indicates that the CVLB were allotted a position next to the 'rocket practice' along that route.
