Cullercoats Fishermen have raised concerns over the recently completed repairs to the harbour
wall. The Harbour wall was breached during the winter of 98/99, and suffered a substantial collapse.
Temporary repairs were made by infill of boulders.
|
The inner wall of the harbour has been faced off, and new stairs laid in for access. But the outer wall has been left with only the boulder infill to face the elements. It has been suggested that this repair may not survive for very long unless properly faced off on the seaward side. |

This picture taken on 30/4/00 shows that
cracking is already taking place in the
boulder infill, and this is a matter of concern
to those who use the harbour. The top of the
boulder infill is exposed, and a further concern
is that this might pose a risk to those who
may climb over the boulders.
