Autumn sky, Cullercoats, October 2001

The bright autumn sky over the Harbour at Cullercoats early October with fishing boats in shadow. Warm winds and the fall of leaves tell of the change of seasons. The seas are rougher, reminding everyone that to take a swim is only for the hardy. For those in the political swim, we are now to have an elected Mayor from next year for North Tyneside.
Teenagers brave the cold water by wearing wet suits, and diving off the end of the north pier. After the chill it's back to the shore and up the stairs to the fish and chip shop. The Watchtower looks down at the scene as it has from the 1880's. The harbour wall shows the wear of ages along it's top, near the repaired breach of the 98/99 winter storms.
As the RNLI flag flutters in the breeze our thoughts are not far from the tragic events in the United States, and to our many visitors from there we share your sorrow for all those who lost their lives .
